PERC celebrates inaugural National Propane Day

Oct. 7, 2022
As operators are working to transition to alternative methods to power their fleets, the Propane Education & Research Council is celebrating the benefits of propane autogas.

As many fleets are making the move to better their fuel efficiency and meet EPA regulations, the Propane Education & Research Council (PERC) is holding its first National Propane Day on Oct. 7, 2022, from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. The goal of the event is to recognize the propane industry at large and the benefits of the energy source.

“Liquid propane is cleaner than gasoline due to the carbon content in the propane molecule itself,” said Mario Genovese, field service manager at Roush CleanTech. “The molecular structure of propane is C3H8. That means it is composed of three parts carbon and eight parts hydrogen. The molecular structure of octane (gasoline) is C8H18.”

As well as this, utilizing propane gas for fleets does not require any new training for maintenance technicians, as their practices are very similar to those of gasoline.

“Propane autogas is energy for everyone, and we are proud to celebrate that in communities around the nation on National Propane Day and beyond,” said Steve Whaley, director of autogas business development at PERC.

To celebrate the universality of Autogas, PERC has held several weeks of social media giveaways leading up to National Propane Day in which propane companies had the opportunity to answer questions about their business for the opportunity to win Energy for Everyone-branded RTIC cooler, hats, and other items. Submissions were due each week, with Friday as the deadline and Monday as the winner announcements.

Over the past four weeks, PERC posed four opportunities to win prizes:

  • What is an example of how your company or a teammate consistently demonstrates great customer service?
  • How do you demonstrate that safety is the top priority in your company?
  • How has your company integrated the Energy for Everyone brand? Share some examples of how you've used it at your company or in your community.
  • Nominate someone, either from your company or another company, who embodies the qualities our industry values most. Tell us how your nominee demonstrates a commitment to customer service, safety, hard work, and giving back to their community.

Midwest Natural Gas won the giveaway for great customer service for serving each client with a smile, while Doke Propane, Inc. earned their prize for demonstrating safety with thorough protocols. Conger LP Gas was the most successful in integrating the Energy for Everyone brand, and Paraco Gas won the giveaway with tales of their employee, Brian, who Paraco Gas reported unloaded 225 million gallons of propane throughout his 22-year tenure.

Finally, for the last week before Oct. 7, PERC held a giveaway of an Energy for Everyone-branded tank wrap for the best submission on how to celebrate next year’s National Propane Day. The company will be accepting submissions until 12 p.m. EST on Oct. 7, after which the winner will be announced at 5 p.m. EST. The submission process remains the same and can be done via social media and tagging PERC.

“Propane autogas is abundant and available today to provide fleets with the environmental sustainability they want and the financial sustainability they need,” said Whaley. “We invite fleet owners to take the time on National Propane Day to learn how this clean energy source can benefit their fleet.”
