Big-Time Boxes: Mark Myers, Snap-on

This box helps a busy tech find the tools he needs.

Mark Myers of Manchester, Tennessee has been an automotive technician for 24 years, and last year, he upgraded his previous toolbox to a Snap-on Epiq series box with two matching side cabinets.

“My last box was a Snap-on box as well,” Myers said. “It just didn’t have enough storage. I liked a lot of the features, so when I upgraded, I went with another Snap-on box.”

Each drawer of Myers’ current setup is filled to the brim with tools, and although he doesn’t use a particularly rigid organizational system, he makes sure he is always able to find what he needs. To help with that, he uses storage trays to organize easy to lose items such as sockets, and keeps like tools grouped together.

“The way I see it, a toolbox doesn’t pay for the investment unless it helps you find the tool you need to use, when you need it,” Myers says. “A toolbox is an expensive investment, and it has to work for you.”

Myers says that the workstation under his hutch is his favorite part of the toolbox, because it gives him a nice, open area to work and has a built-in power strip that allows him to charge tool batteries. He keeps his workspace mostly clear, except for his laptops and frequently used tools such as impacts.

“The side cabinets were an add-on feature that provides extra storage,” Myers says. “The drawer handles also have an upgraded finish, which looks nice.”

Secondary to the looks though, is the performance, and on that front, Myers has been pleased with this toolbox purchase. Since this was a recent purchase, he has no immediate plans for expansion, but he hasn’t ruled out the possibility if he needs more space in the future.
