Ask the Expert: What is the best option for spot cooling my technicians in the service bay?

July 26, 2019
Versatile, portable evaporative coolers can provide efficient and effective cooling.

Question: Summer is brutal on my techs. What is the best cooling option for spot cooling for my service bay?

Answer:

Finding an option that does more than just blow around hot, stagnant air like a typical shop fan is optimal. Consider a portable evaporative cooler that uses evaporation (put simply - cooling with water) to create cool air in the area where it is being used.

Evaporative coolers actually work best with a supply of outside ambient air, so having the shop door open and a supply of water (they can be manually filled or auto-filled with hose hook-up) in the reservoir will work. They are also extremely energy-efficient, often costing as little as $1 a day in resources.

Offering a mobile solution will allow your technicians to roll the cooler to exactly where they need it to achieve directional cooling – such as tight spaces underneath vehicles and under the hood. By reducing temperatures and providing a noticeably cooler environment, you can maintain their comfort and ultimately their productivity.

When looking for an evaporative cooler to fit your needs be sure to look at durability. A well-made product is worth the investment given it can last season after season. Portacool is a leading manufacturer of portable evaporative cooling options for 500 to 5,000 sq. ft. with unique evaporative cooling media, all made in the U.S.A.
