ASE goes paperless for L1 and L2 testing

Jan. 30, 2024
With the transition, the testing for auto advanced engine performance and medium- and heavy-truck electronic diesel engine diagnosis will be paperless, with L3 and L4 tests to follow suit.

The National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) is moving its automobile advanced engine performance and medium-/heavy-truck electronic diesel engine diagnosis certification tests to a paperless format. This transition will begin February 2024.

“We know that time is valuable for service professionals, so by transitioning to paperless testing, we have made the L1 and L2 testing options more convenient for them,” said Dave Johnson, ASE president and CEO. “Now L1 and L2 test takers can use the ProProctor remote test delivery platform as an option for recertification.”

Additionally, the light-duty hybrid/electric vehicle certification test (L3) and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) (L4) tests are transitioning to a paperless format as well. During these exams, the L3 certification test reference and the L4 composite vehicle will only be offered during tests via an electronic PDF, and will only be offered in PDF format “for all ASE advanced-level tests,” the organization stated in a press release.

Currently, the ASE offers two options for L-Series certification tests. These include in-person testing at various proctored Prometric test centers and ProProctor Remote testing for recertification.
