A witch hunt in Detroit

A look deep into the auto industry

Book titles and covers have always intrigued me.

While I subscribe to that old saying, “Don't judge a book by its cover,” I nevertheless use a book title and its cover to help make an assessment about reading the book.

So, when I came across a book entitled, “Witch Hunt. Essays on the U.S. Auto Industry and the Blithering Idiots who Almost Killed It,” I just had to give it a read.

It’s a most interesting book.

The author is Peter M. De Lorenzo, a national columnist who founded Autoextremist.com - a website devoted to news, commentary and analysis of the auto industry.

The book, published by Octane Press, is a collection of De Lorenzo’s essays analyzing the implosion and resurrection of the U.S. auto industry during the last three years, which he calls “the auto industry’s most volatile period of time.”

To give you some idea of what’s in store for the reader, consider this excerpt for the book’s back cover: “Witch Hunt’ is more than just a compelling analysis of a dysfunctional industry; it’s a call to action demanding that the blithering idiots in Detroit, Washington and beyond step aside and let the pride in our country’s automotive industry be restored.”

At 328 pages, the book provides many interesting facts, observations and thoughts about what goes on in the Motor City, and gives the reader a ton of things to ruminate on.

Have you read any interesting books lately?
