A big thank you

What Veterans Day is about

Here in the USA, today, November 11, is the official observance of Veterans Day.

This annual special day is intended to honor and thank all American military veterans for their service to the U.S., particularly living veterans.

For those of you who may not know American history, the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918 was the signing of the armistice which ended the hostilities between the Allied nations and Germany (what became known as World War I).

This day became known internationally as Armistice Day. It was commemorated for the first time in the U.S. on November 11, 1919.

It wasn’t until 1926 that an act of the U.S. Congress officially made November 11 Armistice Day.

Then, 12 years later, in 1938, Congress made November 11, Armistice Day, a legal holiday.

In the aftermath of World War II and the Korean War, Congress, in 1954, changed Armistice Day to Veterans Day to honor all American veterans who served their country honorably during war or peacetime.

To all of you, heartfelt thank you.
