In its 2014 Most Wanted List of transportation improvements, the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has named its top 10 advocacy and awareness priorities for this year.
For the first time, the list includes:
- Promote operational safety in rail mass transit.
- Address unique characteristics of helicopter operations.
- Advance passenger vessel safety.
Also on the 2014 Most Wanted List:
- Eliminate distraction in transportation.
- Eliminate substance-impaired driving.
- Enhance pipeline safety.
- Improve fire safety in transportation.
- General aviation: identify and communicate hazardous weather.
- Implement positive train control systems.
- Strengthen occupant protection in transportation.
2013 list
The NTSB's 2013 Most Wanted List of transportation priorities was:
- Improve safety of airport surface operations.
- Preserve the integrity of transportation infrastructure.
- Enhance pipeline safety.
- Implement positive train control systems.
- Eliminate substance-impaired driving.
- Improve the safety of bus operations.
- Eliminate distraction in transportation.
- Improve fire safety in transportation.
- Improve general aviation safety.
- Mandate motor vehicle collision avoidance technologies.
