Those of you who are regular readers of my blog know that I am fascinated by the application of new technologies.

Have you heard about surveillance mode technology? It is a protection technology developed to warn law enforcement officers of unexpected approaches from behind their vehicles.

It takes action

This new technology has been integrated into the Ford Police Interceptor.

When a person approaches the police vehicle from behind, the protection system automatically sounds chimes, rolls up the driver side window, locks all the doors and flashes the exterior lighting.

The technology uses existing driver assist technology already equipped in Ford vehicles – including the backup camera, cross traffic alert and reverse park assist – to increases situational awareness for officers.

Reduces the risk

The system can be activated when the vehicle is in park, and the sensors and backup camera will continually monitor the area behind the vehicle. The system can be turned off when in an urban setting where the alarm would constantly be set off.

The technology was developed by Ford and InterMotive, a designer and manufacturer of vehicle control systems for various applications.

The goal of the technology, according to Ford, is to help negate some of the risk police offices face when working in their vehicles at night.

Isn’t technology something.
