Not sure if your shop is safe, at least according to federal guidelines. Then you might want to take advantage of a free consultation service from the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
By using the agency’s On-site Consultation Program, shops can find out about potential worksite hazards, improve their occupational injury and illness prevention programs and even qualify for a one-year exemption from routine OSHA inspections.
The On-site Consultation services are separate from enforcement and do not result in penalties or citations.
As part of the program, consultants from state agencies or universities work with employers to identify workplace hazards, provide advice on compliance with OSHA standards and assist in establishing injury and illness prevention programs.
Not too worry
The program is strictly confidential. None of the information – including the shop’s name, its managers’ names and any information provided about the workplace, plus any unsafe or unhealthful working conditions that consultants uncovers – will be reported to OSHA.
The only obligation is to correct serious job safety and health hazards.
This is a commitment that a shop is expected to make prior to the actual visit and carry out in a timely manner.
