Ready for a new way to purchase a car? Then head to Nashville, Tenn., and try the world’s first fully-automated, coin-operated car vending machine.
It belongs to Carvana, the first complete online auto retailer.
The five-story structure delivers a customer’s car by merely inserting a custom coin, similar to how a can of soda is dispensed from a traditional vending machine.
The glass vending machine building, which can store up to 20 cars, contains a welcome center, three customer delivery bays and an automated delivery system that moves a customer’s vehicle from the tower and into each bay.
Customer purchase a vehicle through the company’s website. There they can find a car using dynamic filters and taking a virtual spin and inspect all of the features and imperfections – if there are any – with 360-degree photo technology.
At time of pickup, a customer gets a personal oversize coin to insert into the custom coin slot, which initiates the vending process. Their car is automatically retrieved from the tower and is moved through the vending machine until it reaches a delivery bay, where they take possession.
I wonder if will see a fully-automated vending machine for commercial trucks someday. Now that would really be something.
