Anyone who owns and or operates a high-reach jack should be aware that, according to the Automotive Lift Institute (ALI), the jack must be ALI certified when used with mobile column lifts. Otherwise, a non-certified jack stand will void the certification of the lifts.
ALI is the trade association focused on vehicle lift safety.
Steve Perlstein, sales and marketing manager at Mohawk Lifts – a leader in lift technology – sent along to me some photos of jack stands being tested that I thought are worth sharing.
The accompanying photos show jack stands being tested and certified at Lehigh University’s Graduate Engineering School in Bethlehem, Pa., using a hydraulic press.
As you will see, the jack stands look like toothpicks under this machine, which is typically used to load test and validate giant bridge beams and spans to determine their capacity.
The jack stand in the photos stand 6’ tall.
I hope the press operator had a gentle touch.
