Here’s a Jeopardy-type question: What state has an organization that collects moose killed in collisions with vehicles and “salvages” them so that the meat does not go to waste?
The answer: Alaska.
The Alaska Moose Federation works with the state to deliver moose meat to qualifying Alaskans.
Never haven’t tasted moose meat, I imagine it must be very tasty. Some person or persons have been stealing roadkill moose from the side of Alaska highways.
When contractors arrived at the locations of dead moose, they’ve found that parts of them had been cut out. On other occasions, the moose were missing altogether.
Be advised: Stealing roadkill moose – or their parts – is illegal in Alaska. Once an animal is killed by a vehicle, it becomes property of the state.
Now you know.
