Flying car manufacturer PAL-V, creator of the world's first production legal flying car, has begun selling its Liberty Pioneer and Liberty Sport models.
These three-wheel gyrocopters can climb to a maximum altitude of nearly 11,500 feet.
The 197-hp engine can propel the flying car up to a top speed of 112 mph. The drive mode engine has 99hp and a top speed of 100 mph, with a 0 to 62 mph sprint taking 9 seconds.
Standards Compliance
“After years of hard work, beating the technical and qualification challenges, our team succeeded in creating an innovative flying car that complies with existing safety standards, determined by regulatory bodies around the world,” says Robert Dingemanse, CEO, PAL-V.
“While other flying car manufacturers’ concepts require modified regulations, and in many cases not yet existing technologies, PAL-V deliberately chose to engineer, design and build a flying car with proven technologies and fully compliant with existing regulations,” he notes.
Pricey
The standard Liberty Sport model starts at $399,000. The Pioneer Edition, which comes with added options and is limited to 90 vehicles, costs $599,000. Both come with introductory training lessons.
First deliveries are expected by the end of 2018.
Wondering if you’ll need a pilot’s license to take a Liberty Pioneer or the Liberty Sport for a spin? No. However, a gyroplane pilot’s license is required to fly the flying car.
