Bridgestone Americas closed its Truck and Bus Radial Tire Plant in La Vergne, Tennessee, on July 2, ceasing operations almost a full month before the factory was supposed to close. The decision to close the plant was initially announced in January 2025 to go into effect July 31.
“The La Vergne team’s commitment to performance, efficiency and delivering on commitments enabled us to execute against the set target earlier than expected,” the company said in a statement obtained by The Tennessean.
Opened in 1972, the LaVergne plant had the capacity to produce 3,100 TBR tires per day, according to Fleet Maintenance affiliate Modern Tire Dealer.
The closure impacts around 700 employees who worked in the Nashville suburb. They will still receive pay and benefits for the remainder of the month while they transition into retirement or a new career.
The closure is not expected to negatively affect fleet customers.
“[Bridgestone] is working to ensure this transition has no adverse impact on product supply to customers,” a company spokesperson told Fleet Maintenance back in January.
The company said in its January statement that the decision came as part of initiatives to "optimize its business footprint, strengthen its competitiveness and enhance the quality of the company’s U.S. operations."
