CarriersEdge has launched a new training course on air brakes, which includes an overview of air brake functionality, how to do operational tests, and brake adjustment best practices. According to the company, the program is based on Techni-Com’s Practical Air Brakes training standards and uses content from the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA).

“Techni-Com’s content is second-to-none, and well established as the industry standard,” said Jane Jazrawy, CEO of CarriersEdge. “With the addition of the material from CVSA, there’s no other online course on the market with this depth of content. We’ve even created an interactive, virtual brake board that allows participants to see all the working parts of an air brake system and how they interact.”

Designed for drivers working toward their air brake endorsement or service technicians, the training course lets users learn the function of each subsystem in the air brake system, including its components and what to look for during inspections. It includes eight modules comprising 156 minutes of training, which can be taken separately or together. The eight modules are:

• Practical Air Brakes: Air Brake Fundamentals
• Practical Air Brakes: The Supply Subsystem
• Practical Air Brakes: The Service Brake Subsystem
• Practical Air Brakes: The Spring Brake Subsystem
• Practical Air Brakes: The Trailer Brake Subsystem
• Practical Air Brakes: Visual Brake Inspections
• Practical Air Brakes: Conducting Functional Tests
• Practical Air Brakes: S-Cam Brake Adjustment

Additionally, the training features baseline knowledge tests for each module (without needing to go through the module first), as well as Put it into Practice (PiiP) exercises. PiiP activities supplement the online training and include driver recognition, social media, surveys, and hands-on practice.

The air brake training is available to CarriersEdge subscribers in English, with French and Spanish versions on the way soon, the company said.
