Continental launches Sensor Ready tires for faster tire monitoring installation
Continental Tires Americas has introduced Sensor Ready tires, a new tire design featuring an integrated pocket for tire monitoring sensors to simplify installation and improve reliability for fleets and retreaders.
Built into the tire during the curing process, the sensor pocket is designed to securely house Continental’s tire sensors used with its ContiConnect tire monitoring platform. The tires also feature a Sensor Ready logo on the sidewall to help fleets, dealers, and retreaders quickly identify compatible tires.
Unlike traditional sensor installations that require tire preparation and adhesive application, Sensor Ready tires allow sensors to be installed in just a few minutes compared to approximately 14 minutes previously, reducing labor requirements during maintenance and retreading.
The first tire that will incorporate the technology is Continental’s Conti Coach HA3, a commercial bus tire. Fleets can purchase Sensor Ready tires with sensors installed from the factory or add sensors later without requiring specialized tools or adhesives.
During the retread process, the integrated sensor pocket remains part of the casing, meaning technicians only need to remove and reinstall the sensor, reducing additional labor and helping speed turnaround time.
According to Continental, the tire sensors measure pressure, temperature, and mileage data, allowing fleets to monitor tire health and address issues before they lead to roadside failures, premature wear, or unnecessary fuel consumption.
“Digital tire monitoring is becoming essential for improving fleet safety, efficiency, and sustainability,” said Renato Sarzano, Head of Truck Tires Americas, Continental. “With Sensor Ready tires, we are offering one of the most advanced and user-friendly solutions on the market—reducing installation time, improving reliability, and making it easier than ever for fleets to adopt connected tire technologies.”
Continental said fleets looking for a simpler monitoring option can also use ContiConnect Lite, a smartphone-based version of its tire monitoring platform aimed at smaller operations.
