Bendix announced several products and technologies that will be available starting next year. Among them include AD-HF air dryer, pad wear sensing technology, and a Tractor-Trailer Controller Area Network (TT-CAN). The announcements were made during a press briefing this week at the North American Commercial Vehicle (NACV) Show in Atlanta.

Designed to deliver improved performance, longer product life, and easier serviceability, the AD-HF is a full-function air dryer equipped with a Bendix PuraGuard oil-coalescing cartridge to remove oil aerosols from the compressed air system. It is also corrosion-resistant, has field-serviceable pressure protection valves, and supports e-mobility applications with electronically controlled governor options.

Bendix also introduced pad wear sensing technology on all versions of its ADB22X air disc brake in 2020. The technology is for tractor-trailer configurations and consists of sensors mounted to the ADB pads. The system alerts fleets via telematics when the pad thickness is approaching a worn-out condition.

In addition, Bendix will be adding a TT-CAN to its TABS-6 advanced multichannel trailer roll stability system. In a tractor-trailer electronic braking system, the TT-CAN electronically transmits brake demand from the tractor to the trailer, resulting in a faster transmission of the brake demand, potentially reducing stopping distance and improving brake feel.

The press briefing concluded by stating electrification is building momentum within the industry and that Bendix is preparing for it. They have several developments underway, all of which keep safety at the forefront.

“The next couple of years are probably going to have the biggest changes from our part of the world in safety systems and how we are involving virtually every part of each system to meet these new vehicles coming out in the next three to five years,” said Kevin Romanchok, director of e-mobility.
