CARB extends Clean Truck Check Act inspection deadline

March 29, 2024
The new inspection deadline is Jan. 1, 2025, at which point fleets, owners, and operators must submit an emissions test for vehicles registered in or operating in California.

The California Air Resources Board (CARB) recently pushed back the deadline for required Clean Truck Check program inspections until Jan. 1, 2025. By this date, fleets and owner/operators driving through and registered in California must have completed one of the Board's periodic vehicle compliance tests with a credentialed tester and submitted their results through CARB’s portal.

While this extends the timeline for fleets and owners/operators registered or operating in California to have their vehicle inspection, they are still required to have registered their vehicle in the California Clean Truck Check Vehicle Inspection System (CTC-VIS) and pay a $30 fee by a date between July 1-Dec. 31, 2024, depending on their vehicle registration expiration date. The organization has also codified the compliance deadlines into 2025 and beyond.

Fleets should keep in mind that vehicles may submit their tests through the CTC-VIS portal no more than 90 days prior to their compliance deadline. Electronic vehicle inspections can begin Oct. 1, 2024, for vehicles whose compliance deadline aligns with the program’s inspection date on Jan. 1, 2025.
