Mack simplifies OTA updates with Lock & Leave

The new feature allows drivers and technicians to start eligible software updates, lock the truck, and leave while the installation finishes automatically.

Key Highlights

  • The Lock & Leave feature allows eligible trucks to complete software updates remotely without driver or technician presence.
  • Drivers can initiate updates via the Driver Display Activation system, lock the vehicle, and leave, with the truck shutting down automatically after installation.
  • Designed to reduce downtime, the feature enables updates during scheduled idle periods like overnight or breaks.

Mack Trucks is expanding its over-the-air (OTA) software update capabilities with a new Lock & Leave feature that allows eligible remote software updates to complete without the driver or technician remaining with the truck.

Expected to launch this fall following final validation, the enhancement enables users to initiate an update through the truck's Driver Display Activation system, exit the vehicle, lock it, and leave. The truck remains powered only long enough to install the software before shutting down automatically. When the driver returns, the update is complete, and the vehicle is ready for service.

According to Mack, the feature is designed to reduce downtime by allowing updates to take place during planned idle periods, such as overnight, during breaks, or at the end of a shift. In shop environments, technicians can also start updates on multiple trucks without returning to each vehicle once the process begins.

“Mack customers measure success by how much time their trucks spend on the road,” said Jonathan Randall, president of Mack Trucks North America. “Lock & Leave removes another barrier to remote software updates. Drivers can start the update, finish their day, and let the truck take care of the rest.”

Mack said its OTA platform has completed more than 50,000 remote software updates over the past year with a 99.99% success rate. The system also includes AutoSend, which proactively delivers software updates that can be installed during scheduled downtime.

The Lock & Leave feature will initially be available on the Mack Pioneer, Mack Anthem, all-new Mack Granite, and Mack Keystone models. Existing Mack OTA capabilities include remote software and parameter updates, enterprise-scale deployment across connected fleets, and Driver Display Activation, eliminating the need for laptops, cables, or dealership visits for many software updates.
