Samsara shrinks asset tags and expands recovery tools for fleets
Samsara has expanded its lineup of Bluetooth-enabled trackers with a more compact model called the Asset Tag XS, and increased battery life on its standard Asset Tag to six years—about 50% longer than the previous generation. The company also introduced an AI-powered theft and loss workflow designed to help fleets recover missing and stolen high-value assets faster.
Built to track everything from heavy machinery to handheld tools, the tags aim to reduce downtime tied to misplaced or stolen equipment.
According to Samsara’s State of Connected Operations: Asset Theft & Loss report, 77% of organizations experienced a shutdown or delay due to a missing critical asset in the past year, with average annual shrinkage costs topping $13 million for those without tracking solutions.
Expanded network detection
Samsara said its industrial Bluetooth network has doubled in density over the past two years, leveraging connected devices operating on most major U.S. roads to detect tags in real time. The company also integrated Hubble’s terrestrial network of consumer smartphones to extend detection into buildings and areas beyond fleet routes.
The combined network is designed to improve visibility into misplaced or stolen equipment across job sites, roadways, and indoor environments.
AI-driven theft and loss workflow
Alongside the hardware update, Samsara rolled out an end-to-end theft and loss workflow aimed at improving response times and reducing downtime.
New features include:
- Left Behind Incident alerts: Notifies managers when tagged equipment is separated from a vehicle outside a designated geofence.
- Missing asset status tools: Allows users to mark equipment as missing and review contextual data, including last known vehicle association and related imagery.
- Compass Mode: Helps crews pinpoint asset location once dispatched.
- Asset Tag Overview page: Uses AI to estimate the value of protected and recovered assets, helping fleets quantify ROI.
