AUMOVIO and Amazon Web Services (AWS) are partnering to help develop autonomous vehicles, providing technology that will be used to deploy autonomous trucks at scale for Aurora Innovation (Aurora).

“Our collaboration with AWS is a cornerstone of our strategy to lead the transformation to autonomous mobility,” said Ismail Dagli, executive board member and head of the Autonomous Mobility business area at AUMOVIO. “We are creating a solution that combines cloud infrastructure, AI capabilities, and automotive expertise, efficiently turning data into actionable insights across complex information environments.”

Through this partnership, AUMOVIO and AWS will be adding agentic and generative AI capabilities into AUMOVIO’s autonomous development and validation process, with the goal of speeding up OEM pacing at developing, testing, and readying AV systems for deployment. More specifically, AWS and AUMOVIO will use AWS’s cloud infrastructure and Amazon Bedrock AI to create solutions to process the data used to develop AV drivers. For example, AV engineers will be able to search through driving scenarios to surface instances with pedestrians in the roadway at night while it’s raining.

Torc Robotics
Both Torc Robotics and Aurora Innovation are looking to commercialize AV trucks in 2027.
Gatik AI
Both Gatik AI and Kodiak Robotics are working with Ryder System, using Ryder's established service network to grow their AV operations.

Through these efforts, AUMOVIO, AWS, and Aurora hope to develop and manufacture an “industrialized and scalable generation of the Aurora Driver,” according to a press release. Aurora hopes to begin production of its autonomous trucking system in 2027, for which AUMOVIO will provide a specialized backup computer if its primary system fails.

“Working with AWS to power the development of the Aurora Driver was critical to becoming the first company to launch driverless trucks in the U.S.,” said Matt Ellis, senior vice president of Software Engineering at Aurora. “Assembling an ecosystem of world-class partners to deliver the Aurora Driver at scale will continue to be key to strengthening our leadership in autonomous freight.”
