Western Star adds safety features to vocational trucks

Jan. 29, 2024
The Western Star 47X and 49X vocational vehicles can now include Detroit Assurance with Active Brake Assist (ABA5) as a standard feature.

Western Star Trucks, a Daimler Truck North America brand, made certain safety features available for Western Star X-Series vocational vehicles. Now, the 47X and the 49X can include Detroit Assurance with Active Brake Assist (ABA5) as a standard feature.

“This is an important milestone in our pursuit of job site safety, as we now offer what should quickly become the new standard in equipment to improve overall operator experience,” said Aaron Scates, vice president of vocational and medium duty market development at DTNA. “The vocational market covers a broad spectrum of applications, and with these added safety features integrated into our cab and chassis from the factory, vocational owners and operators can feel at ease having the additional layer of safety, no matter the job.”

Previously only available to vehicles with Detroit engines, Detroit Assurance’s collision mitigation program can include standard features such as Adaptive Cruise Control to 0 mph, Intelligent High Beam, Automatic Wipers/Headlamps, and Lane Departure Warning. Other optional features can include Side Guard Assist, Forward-Facing Video Capture, Driver-Facing Video Capture, and more.

The 47X and 49X can also offer a factory-installed backup alert system, including a 7” integrated touchscreen display in the cab, backup camera, and reverse proximity sensor. The backup cameras feature two mounting locations: Either the end of the vehicle frame or with a fully prepped camera with added harness length for easy relocation. Meanwhile, the integrated in-cab display supports steering wheel controls, hands-free calling, and USB-C and Bluetooth connection. Standard display offerings also include GPS navigation, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto.

For added ease, all necessary installation components will be provided from the factory and the optional extension harness can be ordered, too.

The Backup Alert System, 7” interactive touchscreen display, and backup camera with proximity sensor will be available to order in spring 2024, with deliveries later in the year.
