Suck up spills

March 10, 2016

An alternative to using rags, absorbents, mats and dry sweeping for spill cleanup in vehicle shops is vacuuming equipment. Vacuums can reduce a worker’s contact with liquid spills and can be more efficient in the clean-up process.

Vacuums are a fast response to spills for cleaning them up before they can impact the environment and surroundings, says Frank Casale, vice president of Flo-Dynamics (www.flodynamics.com), a supplier of automotive fluid exchanging equipment. That also helps improve productivity.

Vacuums also reduce the procurement costs of absorbents, as well as lower disposal costs associated with used absorbent materials, he adds.

Often, after vacuuming up the spill materials, they can be stored in drums or other suitable containers for recycling, reuse or proper disposal. Depending on the type of spilled fluid, it could be used in the shop’s waste oil heater, providing another benefit.
