Tool Review: Milwaukee Tool M18 Inflator

Sept. 13, 2022
Reviewed by Eric Moore, fleet manager at Griffin Pavement Striping in Columbus, Ohio.

Q: How did the tool function as far as saving you time?

A: The Milwaukee Tool M18 Inflator is a portable, cordless unit that makes it very handy and a good choice for quick inflations, adding air to the proper pressure for low tires on most commonly driven vehicles. No cords and plenty of guts with the M18 fuel battery selection.

Q: How has using this tool impacted your shop’s profitability?

A: Being portable did make it pretty quick to just top off low tires on our light duty vehicles. There was no waiting for another driver to move their vehicle away from the airline access.

Q: What kind of setup was involved before using the product?

A: Once unboxed, inserting a charged battery and choosing the desired adapter was all it took, and it was ready to work.

Q: How easy was it to use?

A: The M18 Inflator is very simple, and the display reflects that. It shows current and set pressures when powered on. Once pressure is set, push the inflate button and away it goes.

Q: How was its packaging? Did it come with any accessories?

A: Packaged in a branded box, it comes with four adapters: a brass female Schrader adapter, plastic male Schrader adapter, plastic nozzle for pool toys or other inflatables, and a needle for sports balls.

Q: What features did you like?

A: The best features of the M18 Inflator are its weight and capabilities. This is a very well-rounded tool. It comes in just under 9 lbs. with a 5Ah M18 battery, so it’s easy to carry around without getting worn out. It’s actually pretty quiet compared to the power outlet adapter air compressors we’ve all used or have in the trunk somewhere.

Q: Is there any way you could think to improve or add to this tool?

A: This inflator is actually pretty stout as-is. If I had one suggestion it would be a slightly longer hose, or an extension. That could make on-board storage a little trickier, and it’s fine the way it is.

Q: What types of jobs did you use this tool for?

A: I used the M18 Inflator at home on several of my motorcycles, a vintage 1962 Corvette, a fitness ball, and on several of our light duty trucks at the shop. Only a few tires were completely flat, the rest were simply topping off low pressures.

Q: How does this tool compare to other tools you’ve used like it?

A: I think we’ve all used the portable inflators that plug into the power outlets in our cars at one time or another, and this M18 Inflator is far and away a better tool—better design and much more capable. It’s also lighter, faster, and more reliable.

Q: On a scale of 1 to 10, how would you rate this tool overall? Why?

A: Putting numbers on this is difficult, it’s a great addition to your toolbox or trunk. And to be fair I’ll rate it a solid 8.9. The only reason it doesn’t make 10 is because it doesn’t do heavy duty tires. The pressures are too high, and I bet the pump would explode if attempted.
