Nov. 14, 2022
The New York-based watchdog company for automotive lifts recently appointed a new chairman as well as a new Associate Class representative.

The Automotive Lift Institute (ALI) recently appointed Doug Brown of the Vehicle Service Group as the chairman of the Board of Directors. Alongside Brown will be Gary Wainwright of Weco Inc., who has joined the board as an Associate Class representative.

Both men were appointed at the organization’s annual meeting in Las Vegas on Oct. 31. As part of Brown’s first term as chairman, he will serve for one year, while Wainwright is beginning his second, non-consecutive, term which will last two years.

While he serves on the board, Brown is currently the VP of product management and engineering for the Vehicle Service Group, an organization which he joined in 2009 as the director of new product development before he was promoted to the VP of engineering in 2012, and again to his current position in 2019. He has served in the vehicle lift industry for 16 years.

Wainwright is both the owner and operator of Weco Inc. and has been since he began the business 26 years ago.

Alongside Brown and Wainwright, the rest of the ALI Board of Directors includes:

  • Jeff Kritzer of BendPak Inc. (Santa Paula, California)
  • Brian Spikes of Challenger Lifts (Louisville, Kentucky)

  • Gary DiAngelo of Total Automotive Lifting Solutions (Oakville, Ontario)
  • Stet Schanze of Gray Manufacturing Company (St. Joseph, Missouri)
  • ALI President R.W. “Bob” O’Gorman

Most recently, the ALI released digital versions of their safety standards and training, including the ANSI/ALI ALOIM: 2020 and the ANSI/ALI ALIS: 2022, as well as the second edition of the organization’s lift safety manual.
