Question: We are ready to buy a portable evaporative cooler for our shop. What should we consider when selecting the right one for our workspace?

Answer:

Look at the size of the space you need to cool. Consider the square footage and begin to narrow your choices from there. Determine if you require a certain number of speeds and how much air velocity (cfm) you want to have. You’ll need good access to a water source when running the cooler. Portable evaporative coolers typically come with a hose connection for automatic water refill when needed. That should help when it comes to the need for refilling, although manual refills are always an option. Lastly, consider the functions you prefer for easy operation. Do greasy hands require easy to flip switches? Or, do you prefer electronic control panels? Some of the larger evaporative coolers come with unique bells and whistles that could make your day-to-day use easier.
