Tool review: Ingersoll Rand 1207MAX-D3 3/8” air ratchet

Aug. 24, 2010

Ingersoll Rand's 1207MAX standard pneumatic ratchets come in 3/8" (No. 1207MAX-D3) and 1/2" (1207MAX-D4). The 1207MAX features patent-pending collar design for forward/reverse control, 65 ft./lbs. of torque and 200 rpm and 360-degree exhaust with an integrated muffler and swivel air inlet.

The review

Lou Fort, Lead tech at K.A.R.S. in Huntingburg, Ind., and a 26-year ASE-certified Master Tech w/ L1, felt the IR 1207 MAX 3/8” air ratchet was a quality, feature-filled tool.

“There are several nice features on the new 1207MAX that bring the 3/8” back into my lineup of everyday air tools,” Lou said. “The smaller head size, along with the variable-speed trigger make this air ratchet a very versatile tool. I found it quite handy being able to turn it down for spark plug replacement.”

He liked the rotating collar to move the directional control away from the head of the ratchet to use in tighter spaces than a traditional air ratchet. The tool is quiet, and the exhaust is diffused “just right” so it didn’t blow debris around the job, he said.

“The 1207MAX has a rotating air inlet, that I didn’t quite understand at first how it could be useful. I noticed a lot less stress in use; when I would turn the ratchet, the air hose didn’t try and follow. Sometimes it is the little things that can make the biggest difference in the end,” Lou said.

“Ingersoll Rand's 1207MAX-D3 is a quality-built, quiet-running feature-enhanced 3/8”-drive air ratchet.”
