Tool Review: Ledlenser iH11R

The reviewer appreciated this flashlight’s handsfree usability.

As a technician, properly lighting a workspace can be tricky at best, especially when both hands are needed to complete the job. Scott Brown, ASE Master Certified L1 Technician at Connie & Dick’s Auto Service Center in Claremont, California, found a way around the hassle with Ledlenser’s iH11R, a head-mounted flashlight that he says is “pretty doggone cool.”

The flashlight comes mounted to a strap that wraps around the head, but other mounting options are included for mounting the iH11R to helmets such as the magnetic or glue-on mounts. Additionally, the flashlight comes with a carrying pouch that can be attached to a belt.

Brown is impressed with the iH11R’s battery run-time of seven hours and the ease of recharging the light. The device’s rechargeable battery doesn’t have to be removed to recharge it. Brown explains that it’s as simple as plugging the charging cable into the supplied USB adaptor and connecting the other end of the cable to the magnetic mount on top of the light to charge it up.

The only frustration Brown has with the product is its user manual, which he did not find very intuitive. That said, Brown does recommend users get the app, Ledlenser Pro Connect. The app gives users full control over the iH11R’s features and allows them to tailor the light’s functionality to their needs.

Other features of the light include red, blue, and green colored LEDs, strobe light capability, zoom functionality with Ledlenser’s Advanced Focus System, Optisense technology, which adjusts the light based the user’s environment, and an S.O.S. function that will output a Morse Code signal for S.O.S.

Brown appreciates the handsfree usability of the light. He had the opportunity to use the flashlight while working under the dash of a vehicle. The repair called for the use of both hands, meaning he didn’t have a hand free to maneuver a flashlight, so being able to strap the iH11R to his head was very beneficial.

“[You just] point it in the direction you need to see, and you can just move your head around a little bit to get the light to where it belongs,” Brown says.

Overall, Brown found the Ledlenser iH11R to be a useful tool to have around the shop.
