Tech Tip: How to remove click clamps without damaging them

Aug. 3, 2020
Trying to remove the click clamps without the proper equipment can not only damage the click clamps but the hose and the parts around it as well.

If you’re doing any work with fuel hoses, vacuum pipes, or suction nozzles, then you’re likely already familiar with click clamps. Historically, these clamps were most often found in European cars, but we are now seeing them becoming more popular in the U.S. automobile industry. Click clamps are essentially a metal band with a little catch underneath that you pop loose in order to open the clamp. When people don’t have the right tool, their instinct is to cut off the clamps and destroy them. In addition to ruining the click clamp, trying to remove the click clamps without the proper equipment can damage the hose and the parts around it.

KNIPEX always stresses the importance of using the right tool for the right application, likes its series of hose clamp pliers for click clamps that are designed to open and close click clamps without damaging the click clamps. These pliers feature push-button adjustment, as well as rotating tips that are specially designed to grab the click clamps, even in hard-to-reach areas. The pliers have a slim head design for working in tight spaces, as well as serrated gripping jaws for easy loosening of tight hoses. Now, technicians no longer need to replace the click clamps, saving time and energy.
