DTNA names Joanna Buttler GM, product strategy, market development
In her new position, Buttler will cover product marketing, brand communications, sales training, and digital sales tools for Freightliner, Western Star, and Detroit brands.
Daimler Truck North America (DTNA) has appointed Joanna Buttler as general manager of Product Strategy and Market Development. In this position, Buttler will report to David Carson, sr. VP of Sales and Marketing and member of DTNA’s Operating Committee.
“Joanna’s extensive experience and proven leadership make her the ideal leader to drive our product strategy and market development forward,” Carson said. “Her innovative approach and dedication to excellence will continue to strengthen our position in the industry.”
In her new role, Buttler will handle the development of DTNA’s product portfolio in the short- and long-term and spearhead all go-to-market activities. More specifically, she’ll handle product marketing, brand communications, sales training, and digital sales tools, with her team representing the Freightliner, Western Star, and Detroit brands.
Buttler comes to this position after working with Daimler Truck for almost 20 years, starting in 2006 as a marketing analyst and sales support specialist focused on Detroit powertrain. Throughout her time at Daimler, she also served as project controller, manager of IT Controlling, and support manager for former president and CEO of DTNA Martin Daum. With Daum’s initial promotion to CEO of Daimler Truck and Buses, Buttler worked as chief of Staff, and was then appointed to various roles in the Autonomous Technology Group. Her most recent position there was head of the Global Autonomous Technology Group, where she led the post-merger integration within Torc Robotics and the autonomous-ready Cascadia program.
With Buttler’s promotion, Daimler is currently looking for her successor. The company will announce its succession plan for the Global Autonomous Technology Group in the near future.
The commercial towing platform “brings speed, transparency, and automation to a process that has historically lacked all three,” Ryder VP Jenn Dixon said.
