Kolman’s Korner: It remains critical

The importance of tire air pressure has a long history.

David A. Kolman, editor, Fleet Maintenance

Proper tire inflation is the most important maintenance practice to ensure long tire life. Once proper tire inflation has been determined, it should be maintained at that level as consistently as possible.

The importance of tire air pressure has always been an issue. But I was surprised to learn even back in 1909 this was the case, as was noted in an article contained in the September 1909 issue of Popular Mechanics.

I was alerted to this by Harvey Brodsky, founder of the Retread Tire Association (www.retreadtire.org), an organization whose mission is to help retreaders, suppliers and tire-repair industries prosper by providing the most up-to-date information about those industries.
