The Volvo Group and Daimler Truck recently launched Coretura AB, the two companies’ joint venture to create a new software-defined vehicle platform. With Coretura, the two companies will be able to offer stand-alone digital vehicle applications for their trucks.
“With Coretura, we are setting a clear strategic focus on software development for commercial vehicles,” said Karin Rådström, president and CEO of Daimler Truck. “Together we are starting the digital-driven future of trucks and buses, ultimately making commercial vehicles smarter, more connected, and more efficient than ever before.”
Coretura’s goal will be to build a “non-differentiating” core, a standardized and open software-defined vehicle platform, and a dedicated CV operating system. It will also spec and procure centralized high-performance control units for CVs that can handle large amounts of data.
"By leveraging cutting-edge technology and collaborative innovation, we're setting the stage for a new era of connectivity and efficiency in the industry,” said Martin Lundstedt, president and CEO of the Volvo Group.
The company is led by a four-member Executive Management team, with two members from each shareholder company. Johan Lundén of Volvo Group is serving as the company’s CEO, prior to which he was responsible for Strategic Product Planning, Project and Innovation management.
Coretura, based in Gothenburg, Sweden, began operations at the start of June 2025. It currently has about 50 employees, but plans to grow “stepwise” according to Volvo and Daimler, following a co-development approach with its customers. Coretura aims to launch its first products in vehicles by the end of the decade.
Otherwise, the Volvo Group and Daimler Trucks will remain competitors and will differentiate their products and services, including their digital solutions.
