NMFTA, OOIDA launch cybersecurity training for drivers
The National Motor Freight Traffic Association and the Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association (OOIDA) are hosting an online cybersecurity training series for independent owner-operators and small business owners in this month. The series, called “Cybersecurity Basics for Owner-Operators,” will include three classes throughout September 2025.
“Independent drivers are operating complex mobile businesses and need the tools to protect their digital footprint, just like any other entrepreneur,” said Ben Wilkens, cybersecurity principal engineer for NMFTA. “This training empowers them to do exactly that—without breaking the bank or needing a tech degree.”
First session will be held on Sept. 10 from 6-8 p.m. ET and will cover how drivers can protect their personal data, email, and other devices. The second will be on Sept. 17 from 6-8 p.m. and discuss securing mobile devices, Wi-Fi safety, and safe browsing and email practices. Finally, session 3 will be on Sept. 24 from 6-8 p.m. and cover security discussions with vendors, how to create a cybersecurity plan, low-cost tools for cyber protection, and social engineering and scams.
The series costs $49.99 per attendee, with a group rate of up to $199.99 for up to five members of the same fleet. You can register to attend “Cybersecurity Basics for Owner-Operators” classes here.
