ASE launches survey on truck PM inspection tasks

Industry input will help shape future certification standards and training for medium- and heavy-duty technicians.

The National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) is seeking industry feedback through a new survey focused on preventive maintenance and inspection (PMI) tasks for medium- and heavy-duty trucks.

The survey centers on the T8 task list review and is part of a broader effort to better understand which repair and inspection tasks technicians perform most frequently in real-world shop environments.

ASE said the results will help guide updates to certification standards as well as future technical training, ensuring both remain aligned with current maintenance practices across the industry.

Participation is open to all industry professionals, and ASE certification is not required. To encourage participation, the organization will randomly award five respondents with $100 Amazon gift cards.

As an industry-driven organization, ASE relies on input from technicians, fleet maintenance professionals, OEMs, dealers, and aftermarket suppliers to develop its certification tests. Task lists and exam questions are created by subject matter experts from across those segments.
