Diehl repeats as NationaLease Tech Challenge champion

Carl Diehl of Hogan Truck Leasing, a NationaLease Member in Cleveland, OH, earned his second consecutive title at the organization’s 16th annual Tech Challenge, held during the 2026 NationaLease Maintenance Managers Meeting in Rosemont, Illinois. More than 340 technicians across the U.S. and Canada participated in a written exam covering over 100 technical questions, with finalists advancing to a hands-on competition at the TransChicago NationaLease Training & Innovation Center in Villa Park, Illinois.

The competition highlighted the expanding technical demands facing fleet maintenance operations. Hands-on stations covered advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), electrical troubleshooting, brakes and wheel ends, aftertreatment systems, air systems, preventive maintenance, lubricants, tires, cranking and charging systems, and engine diagnostics. Diehl captured top scores in multiple categories, including engine diagnostics, preventive maintenance, tires, air systems, and cranking and charging.

Diehl is an ASE Advanced Level Master Technician and a regular competitor in TMCSuperTech, where he placed third overall in 2025. First runner-up honors went to John Norwood of Aim NationaLease in Phoenix, AZ, while Cole Readman of Warner Leasing Company finished second runner-up. All three technicians qualified to compete at this year’s TMC SuperTech event.
