ASE fall registration deadline coming up

Technicians looking to earn their certification or recertification, especially for tests due to be discontinued by the end of 2025, must register by Dec. 31.

The National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence’s (ASE) fall registration deadline for certification is coming up on Dec. 31, 2025. Those wishing to take certification tests will have 90 days to schedule their tests as long as they schedule on or before that date.

Additionally, five ASE tests are being discontinued as of Dec. 31, 2025. Anyone looking to certify or recertify for these exams must also adhere to the end-of-year deadline. The discontinued tests include:

  • Test E1 – Truck Equipment Installation and Repair
  • Test E2 – Electrical/Electronic Systems Installation and Repair
  • Test E3 – Auxiliary Power Systems Installation and Repair
  • Test P4 – General Motors Parts Consultant
  • Test X1 – Undercar Specialist Exhaust Systems

To register for certification tests, users must visit ASE.com, click ‘register’ and sign in to their account. Then, they must click ‘orders’ and then ‘store’ to find their preferred tests, select them, and then check out.

Currently, ASE offers three methods for technicians to handle their certification tests:

  1. In-person testing at a secure, proctored Prometric test center
  2. ProProctor Remote Testing, which is online and allows for remote testing. Technicians looking to take the auto maintenance and light repair (G1) initial certification test can do so through ProProctor
  3. Finally, techs can recertify through the ASE Renewal App, although this process is much longer. If you are already certified for the A1-A9 series, you can use the app for recertification. If you’re a-series tests have expired, you can use the app as well, but this can take at least 8 months to get certified.

For those looking to take their certification tests, ASE offers free study guides, which have test overviews, sample questions, and study tips.
