Wondering about the effectiveness of your maintenance organization? Ask yourself the following questions. If most of your answers are “No” or “I don’t know,” you most likely have some opportunities for improvement.

1. Are you confident in the quality and quantity of your PMs?

2. What is your rate of scheduled PM completion?

3. Do you have a well-functioning work request system with an appropriate backlog?

4. Are you confident that you have enough technicians? Too many? How do you know?

5. Are your maintenance needs well-matched with your resources each day?

6. Do you have good information about which of your assets is most and least reliable?

7. How is your maintenance organization’s performance evaluated each day?

8. Do you get full value out of your CMMS?

9. Do you have maintenance metrics beyond uptime and cost?
