How to maintain the schedule

Steps to keep the work moving along.
March 10, 2016

- The scheduler chooses jobs from the ready backlog in priority order.

- The scheduler fills in the scheduling board with minimum details.

- The scheduler physically walks around every four hours, eyes the status of jobs and makes sure the right jobs are running.

- The scheduler then prepares a short report calculating the schedule attainment. Intervention is required if it falls below a threshold like 80 percent or 90 percent.

- If a job is stuck or not started, the scheduler adds a note on the report for the supervisor to look into.

- If a job stays stuck for two reports, it is escalated to management.

- Reasons for schedule miss conditions are collected at the time, tabulated and discussed monthly.
