Q: Will fleets use the newly installed ELD for items other than electronic logging?

A: Yes. Even though the ELD mandate has essentially made telematics mandatory for fleets who meet the specific criteria, there are some additional spillover benefits fleets are realizing by implementing this new technology.

Telematics provides fleet managers with increased visibility into the two most important parts of their fleet: drivers and vehicles. Driver productivity increases through route optimization which includes GPS tracking, activity recording and easy dispatching. In addition, telematics will provide fleet managers with quick access to vehicle health and maintenance data through odometer readings, improved MPG, decreased idling, reduced speeding, engine diagnostics and vehicle maintenance.
