New Off-Road Calibration and Rock-Free Mode systems for vocational applications available with select Paccar powertrains across a range of truck models

Peterbilt recently introduced Off-Road Calibration and Rock-Free Mode for the Paccar TX-18 PRO transmission, which is designed to perform in a variety of vocational applications, including heavy haul, dump trucks, and wreckers.

The TX-18 PRO transmission is available in Peterbilt models 579, 567, 589, 389, 367, and 365. It’s exclusively paired with Paccar MX-11 and MX-13 engines, Peterbilt said. The powertrain combination provides up to 1,850 lb.-ft. of torque and is rated up to 140,000 lbs.

“The integration of these new features on the Paccar TX-18 PRO transmission enhances Peterbilt’s ability to provide the best-performing trucks in the industry and deliver productivity, efficiency, and uptime to our customers,” Jake Montero, Peterbilt assistant general manager for sales and marketing, said in a news release.

Off-Road Calibration is a new factory-installed secondary mode learns road terrain and surface conditions and responds automatically for an improved driver experience by minimizing unnecessary shifting and maximizing time in gear on challenging terrain.

Users can engage Rock-Free Mode, which now comes standard on the TX-18 PRO, when off-road conditions impact maneuverability. Once engaged, the transmission can quickly shift between drive and reverse to rock-free, fully enabling the truck, before automatically returning to its default setting, the manufacturer said.
