Volvo's all-new VNL takes on arctic conditions

The company took the latest iteration of its flagship truck to Alaska to ensure that the VNL delivers the performance, comfort, and reliability promised regardless of driving conditions.

This included running a “cold soak” test, where the truck is left outside overnight with the engine off until every component reaches subzero temperatures. After 12 hours at -20 to -30 degrees F, engineers expect the truck to start up and operate exactly as a driver would need it to in the real world, the company detailed.

"I think we're probably testing in much harsher conditions than most of our customers are going to drive in, but there are customers that actually run in these conditions," said Dan Stathis, senior engineer with Volvo Group,"So we want to make sure that our trucks are the most reliable truck on the market."
