The Tire Industry Association (TIA) has appointed Russ Devens as its new president. Devens comes to the role from McCarthy Tire Service Co. Inc., which is located in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, where he serves as the director of Safety and Risk Management.
Now, as head of the TIA, Devens will continue to focus on updating the Association’s training and education programs, the most recent of which include Basic Automotive Tire Service and Basic Commercial Tire Service. However, he’ll also be tackling some of the industry’s biggest issues, including acquisitions, consolidation, and Right to Repair legislation.
“Right to Repair is always a big thing and has been for several years now,” Devens told Modern Tire Dealer, a sibling brand of Fleet Maintenance. “That's going to continue to be one of our main focuses on the government side.”
Plus, Devens said TIA will also be keeping an eye on H.R. 2992, which concerns roadside vehicle crashes and safety for roadside technicians.
“That’s something that's close to my heart,” Devens added. “ We’re going to continue to work to increase penalties for not following move-over laws and things like that.”
