ZF produces 10M integrated brake control units in Michigan

The Fowlerville, Michigan, plant currently manufactures about 6,500 units per day.

ZF has produced its 10 millionth Integrated Brake Control (IBC) unit at its Fowlerville, Michigan, facility, marking a production milestone for the company’s electro-hydraulic braking technology.

The facility began IBC production in 2018 and now produces approximately 6,500 units per day for major North American vehicle programs.

IBC is a non-vacuum, fully integrated electro-hydraulic braking system that combines brake boosting, the master cylinder, hydraulic control, and electronic control functions into a single unit. According to ZF, the system is designed to support functions including automatic emergency braking, full energy recuperation, and redundant braking fallback options.

The Fowlerville facility employs more than 300 people and uses collaborative robotics, digital manufacturing systems, and other Industry 4.0 technologies. ZF said automation upgrades, digital transformation projects, and energy conservation initiatives have helped reduce the plant’s energy consumption by 29%.

ZF said IBC systems are used on vehicle platforms across North America, supporting the integration of electronically controlled braking functions as vehicle technologies continue to evolve.
