Total reported volumes of used Class 8 trucks fell 10 percent month over month and 6 percent year over year in August, according to the latest release of the State of the Industry: U.S. Classes 3-8 Used Trucks, published by ACT Research.

“Year-to-date, sales remain down 5 percent,” said Steve Tam, vice president-Commercial Vehicle Sector with ACT. Tam said that the retail and wholesale markets both contracted month over month, but auctions gained 5 percent m/m. “The average selling price of total reported Class 8 trucks remained at a high level, but was flat relative to July. There remains the real possibility of an upside surprise to our expectation of price appreciation up to 10 percent in 2014,” he added.

The report from ACT provides data on the average selling price, miles, and age based on a sample of industry data. In addition the report provides the average selling price for top-selling Class 8 models for each of the major truck OEM’s – Freightliner (Daimler); Kenworth and Peterbilt (Paccar); International (Navistar); and Volvo and Mack (Volvo).
