VSP News: Kolman's Korner, Episode 107: New Diesel Engine Oils

June 6, 2016
Dan Arcy, global OEM technical manager, Shell Lubricants, shares an update on the new category of diesel engine oils.

Ambitious new goals for fuel economy and emissions have been set for future medium and heavy duty vehicles. To meet these goals without any compromise in engine protection, the industry, in 2011, began work on a new generation of diesel engine oils.

I spoke with Dan Arcy, global OEM technical manager for Shell Lubricants to get an update. The company manufactures and blends products for use in consumer, heavy industrial and commercial transport applications.

There are different performance standards between the two new oils.

Maintenance requirements with the new oils will be about the same as they are today, but, Arcy says, there are some things to take note of.
