Orbcomm launches FM 6510 dashcam

Oct. 11, 2023
The AI-enabled dashcam contains outward- and inward-facing cameras, voice coaching, and custom alerts designed to improve fleet safety and decrease insurance and maintenance costs.

IoT technology provider Orbcomm has launched a new dashcam geared toward service fleets and light commercial vehicles—the FM 6510. The device has both outward- and inward-facing cameras with night vision, and is made to protect drivers in industries such as construction, commercial maintenance, oil and gas, and home services, the company announced Wednesday.

The FM 6510 uses video AI, engine data, and sensors to detect unsafe driving practices including speeding, distracted and drowsy driving, phone use, tailgating, stop sign violations, as well as harsh acceleration, braking, and turning, according to the release.

The dashcam’s driver coaching features include the ability for carriers to send audio messages to drivers via its voice coaching feature. Carriers can receive notifications on unexpected trips and excessive idling.

Customizable alerts are available to allow fleets to see when incidents occur. Fleets can use telematics data and video footage to reconstruct incidents, including the time and date, location, driver awareness as well as the event’s traffic and weather conditions. Fleets can also use location data and geofencing to optimize routing and monitor arrival, departure, and dwell times, according to the release.

“Safety is a top priority for every fleet, whether they have 50 or 5,000 vehicles, and integrating Orbcomm’s smart dashcam is a great way to promote a safety-first culture and extend a fleet’s visibility of events happening on the road and in the cab in real-time,” said Gregg Plonisch, Orbcomm’s SVP of product management. “By leveraging our telematics-enabled video solution, service fleets can keep their drivers, vehicles, and reputation safe, reduce risk in their operations, and optimize fuel efficiency and maintenance costs, all of which deliver a strong, long-term ROI.”
