Samsara Beyond preview: AI to have bigger fleet presence
While AI in fleet operations safety is already a valuable tool when it comes to dashcams, ADAS, predictive maintenance, and more, Johan Land, SVP of product & engineering at Samsara, expressed his excitement at the potential future application of the technology when it comes to highlighting key information for proactive maintenance, something that will be discussed in depth during Beyond 25.
“We’re now at a point where AI can observe far more risks and patterns than any individual or team ever could—whether it’s identifying dangerous driving behavior, detecting near misses, or predicting maintenance issues before they become critical,” he detailed. “But what’s most exciting is that AI doesn’t just surface more data—it helps focus attention where it matters most. It’s enabling fleets to be proactive rather than reactive, which means teams can spend less time sifting through noise and more time preventing incidents and protecting their drivers.”
While collecting data is undeniably important for optimizing fleet operations, the sheer amount that modern AI technology is collecting can make it difficult to sift through, making the usage of AI to address and mitigate data overload a critical next step in proactive maintenance and continuing to streamline fleet management and safety. And as Land points out, there is plenty of potential.
“We’re just scratching the surface of what’s possible, and I’m looking forward to sharing how our customers are already using these capabilities to make meaningful progress on safety,” he concluded.
With Samsara CEO Sanjit Biswas set to lead a keynote and logistics and safety officers from brands like Sysco, Mohawk Industries, and USIC putting a focus on AI-related advancements in fleet operations and safety, the conference is sure to provide some exciting announcements and commentary on the state of commercial vehicle safety.
"We’ve brought together a powerful group of voices for Beyond 25—leaders who are not only shaping the future of operations, but doing the hard work of building it every day,” explained Land. “These are people who understand what it takes to drive meaningful change—at scale.”
Dozens of speakers will take the stage throughout the event, including executives from companies like Daimler and Home Depot.
Other topics to be covered during the conference include accident prevention, driver retention, and a look at trends and predictions for the transportation industry led by Chris Spear, president of American Trucking Associations.
Beyond 25 will also include a ceremony for Samsara’s 2025 Connected Operations Awards, a program that recognizes customers using the AI-powered platform to achieve significant advancements in safety, efficiency, and sustainability.
Winners included Mohawk Industries, the largest flooring manufacturer in the world, with the award in Excellence in Systems Efficiency. At over 800 tractors and 2,500 trailers, the fleet was able to close the gap in planned vs. actual routing, reducing mileage by 25% to save over $7.75M annually using Fleet Telematics.

At last year's Beyond, which took place in Chicago, the company revealed various innovative new features like Connected Training, Connected Workflows, and Trailer Telematics. Also introduced at the event was the Asset Tag, a product designed to help customers manage and track smaller, high-valued equipment or items, described by David Gal, Samsara VP of product and engineering, as an immensely more powerful version of a traditional Bluetooth tag.
Stay tuned, as Fleet Maintenance will be on the scene in San Diego next week to cover every new feature and reveal.
