Samsara expands factory-installed trailer system program
Samsara has announced Hyundai Translead is the latest authorized partner in its Pre-Delivery Installation (PDI) Program. The program allows Samsara’s telematics and camera hardware and software to be installed by the OEM prior to delivery, with subscriptions activated automatically upon shipment, allowing for more seamless integration of the technology and faster entry of the trailers into the fleet.
The pre-configured trailers save fleets time and third-party installation costs, while ensuring each system meets OEM standards, explained Tom McNeela, Samsara vice president of hardware product management.
“[The other option is] they need to coordinate the vehicle, the hardware, the resources, and then pull it all together," he continued. "And the cost is more in the opportunity cost, the coordination cost, and a financial cost.”
Samsara systems offered from the factory on Hyundai Translead trailers include:
- Asset Gateways
- Asset Trackers
- Door Monitors
- Cargo Monitors
- Environmental Monitors
Additionally, the partnership allows Samsara equipment to be paired with Hyundai's HT LinkVue trailer camera system, which gives drivers a 360-degree view around the tractor-trailer.
“It’s basically responding to a customer ask,” McNeela noted.
Samsara launched its PDI program last year with an initial partnership that included Daimler Truck North America and Fontaine Modification.
Overall, these PDIs look to remove certain pain points that come with self-installs or adding technology after equipment has been put into service.
"We're taking friction out of the initial enablement," McNeela concluded. "And there is an element of quality confidence, because it's being done in an OEM facility, with OEM processes, and following an OEM- and Samsara-validated installation paradigm. There's confidence there, and I think customers recognize that, and that's part of the draw to the PDI program."
