Tool Review: Oil Eater Overnight Stain Remover

July 19, 2023
We test out Oil Eater Overnight Stain Remover, which uses microbes to go beneath the surface of the floor and eat away at oils and other stubborn stains.

Every shop spills oil at one time or another, but no one wants their workplace covered in black spots. There are plenty of methods to remove these oily marks from the shop floor, but they require lots of time and elbow grease. To cut down on both, Oil Eater came up with the Overnight Stain Remover. The company says the milky liquid contains microbes that go beneath the asphalt or concrete surface to eat away at the oil or grease over a span of 12 hours.

To see how easy it is to use, and how effective, I visited my dad, Ed Beaulieu, and brother, Eddie, owners of Beaulieu Auto Center in Cleveland, Ohio to try out Oil Eater's Overnight Stain Remover on the shop's oil stains. The shop typically uses an orange powder and hose water every Friday night to wash away the week's various messes, but that doesn't always get the more stubborn smudges.

We tested Overnight Stain Remover on several spots, applying it in the afternoon and checking the next day, and found it worked well anywhere the sun hit the stain directly. Oil Eater advises the product is used in temperatures above 60°F, and that some areas may require more than one application.

Actual use breaks down into three simple steps: Apply, dry and brush. Don't forget to shake well before use and to apply liberally.
