SelecTrucks’ “Proud to Serve” program hits $1M savings for veterans
SelecTrucks, a division of Daimler Truck North America and leader in pre-owned commercial trucks, has announced that its Proud to Serve Veterans Discount program is at over $1 million in savings delivered to U.S. military veterans pursuing careers in the trucking industry.
Launched in 2017, the program helps veterans transition to civilian careers by offering up to $6,500 in savings on qualifying used semi-truck purchases through a combination of down payment matches, warranty upgrades, and new tire purchase assistance. SelecTrucks also makes a $500 donation to veteran-focused charities per qualifying truck, with over $80,000 total donated since 2022.
“SelecTrucks is honored to empower those who have served our nation by helping turn their dreams of business ownership into reality. By lowering upfront costs, reducing risk, and creating financial flexibility, we’re proud to stand behind veteran entrepreneurs as they build their business,” explained Chris Backeberg, President of Daimler Trucks Remarketing (DTR). “Saving these men and women over $1 million is our way of showing appreciation for their service and sacrifice.”
Some benefitting from the program, like Charlotte-based, 22-year Navy veteran and owner-operator Robert Baker, have used the savings to reinvest in their businesses, while others, such as Florida-based driver Scott Reese, credit their local SelecTrucks dealers for offering both the financial and service support that foster long-term trust. Fleet owner Roger Burdette, also a Navy veteran, estimated that 70% of his 48-truck fleet now consists of SelecTrucks units purchased through the program.
